Krav Maga is a military self-defense and fighting system developed for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli security forces (Shin Bet and Mossad) that has a philosophy emphasizing aggression, and simultaneous defensive and offensive maneuvers. Our expert guided fight training is led by top-certified Krav Maga instructors with a wealth of training and real-world experience. Are you ready to experience fighting like you’ve never seen it before?
Origin & History
The origin of Krav Maga is traced back to Hungarian-Israeli martial artist Imi Lichtenfeld. As a former wrestler and boxer, Imi combined fight training with hard-won street fighting experience learned while defending the Jewish quarter against fascist groups in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, during the 1930s.
After relocating to Israel in the 1940s, Imi began formulating and refining the principles of what would become Krav Maga as he taught military conscripts of the IDF. His original concepts focused on simple and practical techniques that were rapidly teachable to virtually any student.
When the State of Israel became a nation in 1948, Imi was formally asked to develop a fighting system and train the Israeli Defense Forces. Krav Maga was born and is still taught to all IDF enlisted men and women between the ages of 18 and 51, as well as Israeli security forces.
Krav Maga Principles
Krav Maga is not about boring, repetitive movements and exercises. It promotes finishing a fight as quickly as possible, by swiftly addressing the danger and counterattacking at the most vulnerable parts of an attacker’s body. Krav Maga training is not limited to techniques that avoid severe injury.
Fight training drills provide maximum safety to students by using both reasonable force and protective equipment. Krav Maga Great Lakes instructors will help you become an efficient, all-around fighter in a short amount of time. They use a variety of methods and drills to simulate different attack and fighting situations. These drills will also help you attain a higher level of fitness, endurance, and fighting spirit.
